    <span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Book Antiqua';">STURGIS, S.D. - Four people are running for the three available seats in the Meade School Board election on June 4. Vying for the three three-year terms are Bryce Richter, Sturgis, Ezra Hays and Curtis Nupen, both of Piedmont, and Robert Burns, the incumbent, from Black Hawk. Amy Conover of Sturgis had filed petitions but recently withdrew her name because she has been hired by the district as a special education teacher.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>The other two incumbents, Wanda Blair of Vale and Nancy Richter of Enning, are not running for re-election.</span>

    Florida lawmakers approved a record-setting $74.5 billion budget that includes $9.65 billion in local projects -- almost $2 billion more than the $7.96 billion in that category in last year's budget. The budget is now awaiting action from Gov. Rick Scott. He has the power, through a line-item veto, to sign the budget but eliminate funding for individual projects. Should Scott be aggressive in vetoing projects? Or should he give lawmakers, who know their districts better than he does, the benefit of the doubt? Talk about it!
