***May 20th -26th celebrates EMS Week! Celebrate and honor the hundreds of thousands of EMS practitioners serving our communities across the nation. They're often the first responders to emergency situations and around the region. Most work on a volunteer basis. Emergency medical technicians spend their days and nights responding to medical emergencies. Please say thank you to an EMS worker.

***Picture a close friend, family member, or colleague who is struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or post traumatic stress. The damaging impact of untreated mental health issues can be widespread. We believe those who need help should know how and where to find it, that they should be nurtured and sustained throughout their recovery, and that they should be educated and coached to learn to achieve permanent wellness through prevention. ***The 13th annual Extreme Skills Basketball Camp for boys and girls K to 8th grade will be held Monday, June 11th - 14th at Central High School. This camp promises to teach fundamental basketball at every phase of the game and having fun. Camp Director Mike Purcell has 25 years of coaching experience. **Golf for fun and for kids! The CMN Golf Tournament will be held at the Elks Golf Course at 8 a.m on Friday, June 1st . This 18-hole, two-person scramble will be $125 per person (includes green fees, cart and awards lunch). Registration deadline is Tuesday, May 31st. Register online now or call the Foundation office at (605) 719-5842. One hundred percent of the money raised through special events goes to children's services at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

***Black Hills Community Theatre is proud to produce Summer camps at Storybook Island. Spend a sun filled week with the actors & staff learning theatre games, creative storytelling, and playwriting with a performance at the end of the week! Each session is limited to 20 campers per age group. There are two sessions: Tuesday, July 10th– Saturday, July 14th from 10AM – 1PM and/or Tuesday, July 17th – Saturday July 21st from 10AM – 1PM. Both sessions may be attended. Cost is $75.00 per session (pre-register by June 15 and receive a $10 discount!) & will include a Theatre Camp T-shirt.  ***The Minneluzahan Senior Center has gone to the BIRDS! On May 22 from 2:30-4:00 pm the Minneluzahan Senior Center will be hosting the Black Hills Raptor Society. Join us for a very fun, educational, and owlish program. The Raptor Society will bring a variety of owls, hawks, and related animals for an up close and personal animal experience. Topics discussed will include characteristics of raptors, our local birds of prey, predator and prey relationships, fables and stories about raptors, conservation trends relating to raptors, falconry, and much more.   Then be sure to join us afterward for a delicious Taco Salad Supper, the Center’s Art Show, and finally Bingo. Come make a day of it at the Minneluzahan.  ***The City of Rapid City will celebrate the 75th birthday of Dinosaur Park on Friday, June 1st at 4:00PM. Cake and refreshments will be served.

***The Humane Society of the Black Hills will be hosting Critter Camps this summer for children grades K-8 grades. Grades K-2 will be held on Wednesday, June 13 from 9:30 - 1:30 p.m. Grades 3-5 same time Wed. July 11, and Grades 6-8 same time Wed. Aug. 1 Please see attached registration form for specifics. ***The 9th Annual Yellow Bike-A-Thon will be held Saturday, June 2nd. Ride your bike from the Memorial Bandshell to the Cleghorn Fish Hatchery and back. There will be entertainment, face painting, bike demonstrations, and more. The cost is $10.00 for a single rider and $25.00 for a family. ***The Mother Butler Center is sponsoring a Summer Food Service Program.   ***The Bi-annual Conference for the Artist-Blacksmith’s Association of North America (ABANA) will kick-off on July 18 and continue thru July 21, 2012 at the Central States Fairgrounds, Rapid City, South Dakota. More than 1,000 professionals, amateurs, and artists will gather for this unique event offering active involvement and exposure to blacksmithing skills. All demonstrations will take place at the Central States Fairgrounds. There will be tailgaters offering a variety of artistic wares and used tools, as well as indoor and outdoor vendors. ***The Black Hills Workshop Foundation Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, July 16th at Arrowhead Country Club. This is a best ball scramble based on the teams overall handicap. On-the-course competitions will include 18 Pin Competitions, Hole-in-One prizes for the Par 3's, Special Drive Option and “Mulligans” will be available. An amazing raffle and goodie gifts will complete the round of fun. $125 per player / $500 per team of 4.
