An unmarked Auburn police car caught fire and burned late on the Fourth of July while officers were warning people to stop shooting off fireworks and clear out of an area on the Muckleshoot Reservation, it was disclosed Thursday.
No one was injured.
Auburn police were called to help assist the tribal police on shutting down the fireworks discharge area on the Muckleshoot Reservation late on July Fourth. Auburn police lined their cars up and drove through the area with their lights on and informing people through their PA systems to stop shooting off the fireworks and clear the area.
At one point, one of the unmarked cars caught fire in the trunk. It wasn't known if the car drove over smouldering debris or if a firework was shot at the vehicle, police said.
