The Navarre fire, burning in the Navarre Coulee area 8 miles north of the town of Entiat, Wash., grew to approximately 775 acres throughout the weekend due to hot and dry weather conditions, the U.S. Forest Service said.
The evacuation level for home along the Navarre Coulee Road has been downgraded to Level 1.
On Saturday, it was reported that the fireline had been constructed around 75 percent of the fire. Crews had hoped to have a fireline around the entire area by Saturday evening, but as the fire continued to spread crews are working to construct a fire line that encompasses the entire fire.
A thunderstorm Sunday evening caused further fire activity within the perimeter, but it remained within the fireline. Monday crews plan to continue to construct the fireline.
Hot weather, steep terrain and rolling rocks also pose a safety threat to fire fighters.
The thunderstorm was also cited as the cause for a fire that is estimated to encompass 170 acres in the Chelan Butte area. Two 20-person crews, five fire engines and helicopters are being shared by the Navarre fire crews to extinguish the fire.
A Level 2 evacuation notice is in effect for the Chelan Butte paragliding area, so users of the area must be ready to leave at a moment's notice. The Chelan Butte area is a mix of ownership, including some private homes.
