Len says last night was the best night of dancing they've ever seen. Rulebreakers Shawn and Derek get the encore. Because this show is more about ratings than competitive dance authenticity.
Never kid yourself about that.
Watching from the balcony last night, Emmitt observes of Melissa and Tony, "They nailed that [expletive deleted]." Emmitt's talkative because he also calls out to Gilles as he's hanging from the flying apparatus, saying he'd be too scared to do that. Gilles says he realized after he was hoisted up that his fly was open.
Kirstie and Maks are in jeopardy, but Emmitt and Cheryl, Gilles and Peta, and Melissa and Tony are safe.
Frankie Moreno, who's a Vegas crooner/piano player in the old-school tradition, is there to perform while Lacey Schwimmer (former "DWTS" pro) and Kyle Massey (former contestant) dance a jive. They're later joined by members of the "DWTS" troupe. I gotta say, I first saw Lacey in her season of "So You Think You Can Dance" and I really, really miss her being a brunette.
Shawn and Derek and Apolo and Karina are safe. Drew and Anna are in jeopardy. Kelly and Val are safe.
Between Kirstie and Maks and Drew and Anna, the couple going home is Drew and Anna. First past season champion down!
All the judges agree last night was really, really good. The dance styles that the couples will be picking for each other are revealed and they are:
• Bolero
• Bollywood
• Broadway
• Charleston
• Contemporary
• Disco
• Hip-Hop
• Jitterbug
• Mambo
• Rock 'n' Roll
This is getting pretty far away from ballroom. But since this last season of "So You Think You Can Dance" was weirdly unfulfilling, I'll take it.
The order of choosing will go like this: last place score picks for first place couple. Next to last couple picks for second place couple, and so on and so forth. With Emmitt and Apolo tied, they drew numbers. Each couple has ten seconds to confer and pick the dance for the other couple.
