The Rush came out firing, dominating the chances early which led to a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game. The first tally came at 5:24 from veteran defenseman Kyle Peto who fired a wrist shot to the top-left corner for his eighth goal of the season. One minute and thirty seconds later, Justin Sawyer’s shot from the point set up Jesse Schultz for a rebound from the slot that served as his thirteenth of the year. The Sundogs bounced back on their first powerplay chance of the game with a goal from Johan Ryd who stepped out from the corner and jammed a shot under Boron to make it 2-1 after one.
The second period featured fast-paced action with numerous scoring chances for both sides, but goaltenders Tim Boron and David Brown were the stars of the period. However, the Rush did eventually get by Brown while on the powerplay when Scott Wray deflected in his 21st of the year with less than two minutes left to make it 3-1 with 20 to go.
Just forty-four seconds into the final stanza, the Sundogs cut the lead to one with Jason Morgan’s fourteenth goal of the year. However, Boron was perfect for the remainder of the contest while Jesse Schultz added an empty net goal for the 4-2 win.
