In the final contest of a three-game road trip, the Rapid City Rush fell to the Denver Cutthroats by a 2-1 score at the Denver Coliseum on Tuesday night.  The Rush will now play on home ice for seven of their final eight games of the 2012-13 regular season.  This Friday and Saturday, the team will host the league-leading Allen Americans with both games scheduled for a 7:05pm start.  On Friday, the first 1,000 kids will receive a free youth replica jersey while on Saturday, the team will celebrate Special Olympics Night.  Tickets are available 24-hours a day at gotmine.com or by calling the Rush office at 716-7825.

Denver controlled the opening twenty minutes, outshooting the Rush 12-5 and taking a 1-0 lead to the first intermission.  Midway through the frame, Denver’s leading scorers, AJ Gale and Troy Schwab, sped into the Rush zone on a two-on-one which culminated in Gale’s league-leading 35th goal of the season.

Both sides exchanged goals in the second period, needing a span of only fifteen seconds.  The Rush got on the board at 8:37 when Jared Brown set up Jesse Schultz at the bottom of the left circle for his 15th of the year.  Moments later, AJ Gale’s shot from the top of the left circle was denied by Boron, but right to Brad Smyth who was credited with his 24th to give Denver a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Smyth’s second period goal proved to be enough as the Rush couldn’t find the equalizer despite twelve shots on net in the third period.
