STURGIS, S.D. - On a night in which the second class of 2012 hall of famers were honored, Spearfish came in and spoiled the party for the Sturgis Scoopers.
The Spartans won both boys and girls games, and swept the season away after wins in Spearfish in January.
In the girls game, both teams played cat and mouse until the very end, when Spearfish won the game at the free throw line 46 to 43. The Scoopers got chances to take the lead in the waning seconds of the game, but committed two turnovers to give the Spartans the win. Lynsey Prosser, who had been scoring 20-plus points a game, had an unusually quiet night with only six points. Kahlie Peterson, however, broke out with 17 points to lead Sturgis.
In the boys game, Spearfish played sloppy in the first half, and kep the Scoopers in it, but pulled out just enough in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Spearfish won 69 to 50. Freshman Kellen Barden led the Scoopers in scoring with 12 points. Brandon Kemp was the high scorer for Spearfish with 14.
The loss keeps the Scoopers winless on the season, while Spearfish improved to 13 and 6.
The Scoopers have two games left in the season -- at Douglas on Tuesday night and at Stevens on Thursday night.
