Marion Ernest Lucca, 93 died January 31,2012 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Marion was born June 29, 1918 in Los Angeles,Ca. to Anna and Umberto Borlera Lucca. The family moved to Lead,S.D. in 1918. He grew up in Lead and graduated from Lead High School in 1936. He attended Billings Polytechnic Institute in Billings, MT. for one year and then transferred to South Dakota State College in Brookings, S.D. where he graduated in 1946 with a B.S. degree in printing and journalism.
In the fall of 1940 he joined the staff of the Daily Belle Fourche Post. He served as editor of the Post and later as editor of both the Daily Post and The Weekly Belle Fourche Bee, products of Northwest Publishers, Inc. He became part owner of the firm with Mr. & Mrs. Laurence Weyler and Faye Kennedy. The papers were sold to Allison Publishing of Sturgis, S.D. in 1988 and Marion retired.
He served on the Black Hills Round-Up Committee, the Belle Fourche Airport advisory board and as a member of the Belle Fourche Library Board of Trustees.
He was married in Belle Fourche July 25, 1953 to Ines Estes and they raised five children.
Survivors include children: Diana (John) Glenn, Belle Fourche; Linda (Ken) Cornish,Watertown,Conn; Marya (Steve) Thyberg,Omaha,NE; Mark Lucca,Missoula,MT; Greg (Rose Neumiller), Black Hawk,S.D.
Grandchildren: Trisha Bass,Pensicola,FL;Chad Moore,Jacksonville,FL; Bill Glenn, Cleveland,OK; Deena Jackson, Cleveland,OK.
Great Grandchildren: Ashlee Glenn, Brandon Bass, Dylan Bass, Griffin Moore, Jenna Moore, Jessica Cornish, Lucca Jackson and Great Great grand daughter: Lilian Dryden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three sisters.
At Father’s request a cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the Belle Fourche Public Library.
